A Standing-Room-Only crowd enjoyed Hula Mai’s Fourth Annual “Hula in the Plaza.” Two dozen dancers and six band members got cheers and enthusiastic applause for their most sophisticated program yet.
|
And we couldn’t have been more proud of our special guest artist, Patrick Landeza, who had just returned from Honolulu where he won the Na Hoku Hanohano award for the best slack key guitar album of the year, "Slack Key Huaka`i." This is one of the most coveted awards in the Hawaiian music world, and nobody from outside of the State of Hawaii had ever one one in its 36 year history. We were also proud that the Mayor and the City Council chose to declare the day of our Ho`ike “Hula Mai Day in Sonoma.” And Mayor Ken Brown, himself, was there to quote from the City’s Proclamation – “that Hula is good for the body, mind, and soul!!”
